This is an adaptation of a koban nishiki-e print called “Calendar with Pictures 1978”. The nishiki-e was based on the saying ‘Hyotan kara koma’, or ‘A horse comes from a gourd’, which means that something unexpected happens. Expressed here in a little exaggerate composition is the scene in which an old man is pulling a pony out of a gourd literally, and a boy is delighted at it. Please enjoy this jocular style.
